Former FC Barcelona retired footballer Xavi Hernandez and his wife Nuria Cunillera have donated one million euros to the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona to help fight the new coronavirus pandemic, announced the health facility on Saturday.

Sports initiatives have multiplied in Spain, where Lionel Messi, Pep Guardiola, Pau Gasol, Rafael Nadal and now Xavi, among others, have made donations or coordinated support campaigns for the fight against the pandemic.
After Italy, Spain is the second most bereaved country in the world with 124,736 cases and 11,744 deaths linked to the new coronavirus. But the number of daily deaths fell for the second day in a row on Saturday, after the record 950 deaths in 24 hours Thursday.
