This came during a regular briefing by the Emirates government yesterday to provide an update on the latest developments related to the emerging corona virus (Covid-19).

The spokesperson for the health sector in the UAE, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, stressed the need to wear a muzzle for people who suffer from respiratory symptoms, as well as healthy people to prevent infection, and in the absence of a medical mask, the alternative option is to cover the nose and mouth using paper masks, or household masks Made of cotton or mixed cotton, making sure to re-wash it, it is important to change the mask when it becomes wet, contaminated or damaged after use, and not to reuse the one-use mask, as the fabric mask can be used for a longer time, and then wash it well at the end of the day, With Do not touch or share it with others.

Al-Hosani pointed out that the next few days are expected to witness an increase in the number of discovered cases, as a result of the expansion of the scope of intensive pre-emptive examinations conducted by the competent authorities to detect the injured and contacts.

She stressed the need to adhere to physical distance, and not to leave the house except for necessity.

For his part, the spokesman for the Ministry of Economy, Hamid Al-Muhairi, stressed the strength, flexibility and competitiveness of the national economy, but its association with various global markets made it not isolated from the effects of the Corona virus crisis. He said that «within the efforts of the Ministry of Economy to face the repercussions of the crisis and ensure business continuity, a central operations room has been formed that includes major working teams to deal with the expected economic challenges, including the retail and retail outlets team, the suppliers team, the control and consumer protection team, the tourism team, the trade team Foreign investment.

He added: “We have created a database of the registered main sales outlets, which number more than 1,600 outlets in various state markets, and we have developed a plan to continuously inventory the quantities of available stocks of basic commodities. The Ministry has also coordinated jointly between suppliers and outlets, to ensure the provision of goods to these outlets At reasonable prices, and coordination with the customs authorities and departments in the country to facilitate the entry of consignments of food and basic commodities from the port to the warehouse.

He pointed out that the customs procedures in the country were reduced from two days to hours only, and cooperation was done with suppliers to diversify the sources of import, and to find alternative markets for the food and basic commodities affected as a result of the precautionary measures applied by the importing countries, or as a result of the impact of the shipping movement.

He mentioned that the Ministry’s Monitoring and Consumer Protection team worked to monitor prices, carry out market inspections periodically to ensure consumer protection, and monitor the extent of commitment to sales outlets, and the number of employees of consumer protection complaints centers in the ministry was doubled, during the current period, to receive all consumer complaints and take Measures necessary.

He pointed out that the Ministry has set an upper limit to which the sales outlets are bound, regarding sterilizers and masks prices, so that the profit rate does not exceed 5%.

He stressed that the state’s markets do not suffer any shortage, and the process of supply and import is carried out according to the plan in place, local production continues, and the available stock is sufficient for long periods, and he called on the public to be reassured and responsible shopping, by purchasing only as needed.

Al Hosani asks the public not to spread rumors
