According to an exclusive BVA survey for Europe 1 and Orange published on Thursday, the French are very worried about the economic development of the country, particularly with regard to the future of artisans, traders and SMEs.

French morale is stabilizing, but concern for the economic future is growing. As the fourth week of containment prepares to begin, it is the purchasing power, the level of indebtedness of the country, and especially the situation of traders and small businesses that most concern the French, according to a survey * exclusive BVA for Europe 1 and Orange.

A great concern about the economy ...

91% of French people overall say they are "worried" about the future of artisans, traders and SMEs, 55% of whom are "very worried". In addition, 66% of French people believe that the effects of the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 will continue beyond 2020, when only 7% rather lean for a few months.

These fears are reflected in purchasing power, with 82% of respondents saying they are concerned about the subject. The concern is greater among women (85%), employees (84%), workers (88%) and retirees (86%).

More generally, the country's debt level is also a factor of concern for 85% of French people, even though Brussels has largely relaxed the rules of budgetary discipline, and what Ursula von der Leyen said this Friday morning on Europe 1 want a "Marshall plan to secure the future of Europe".

... but stable morale

Paradoxically, the great economic concern does not undermine the morale of the respondents, the latter stabilizing even at 6.2 on a scale of 0 to 10. Certainly, only 8% of French people think that the worst is behind us. Conversely, 64% think that the worst is yet to come. But this figure is down two points in 24 hours, which confirms an overall trend since the start of containment.

If 76% (-2 points) of French people are still confident about the atmosphere in their place of confinement, they are now 52% with a smile about the economic future of the home (+2 points). Small flat on the other hand concerning the way in which the government manages the crisis of Covid-19: in spite of a long educational exercise of Edouard Philippe Thursday evening, only 37% of the French have confidence in their leaders. A figure down two points since the last opinion poll.
