Ex-marathon world warrior Wilson Kipsang spent a night at the police station for celebrating as a group after the curfew in Kenya to fight Covid-19, announced a police source.

"We arrested Kipsang and nine other people, including one of the county administrators, at the Keelu Resort drinking and playing pool at 10 p.m.," police commander told AFP. of Yten County, John Mwinzi. "It is a very serious offense. These people are respected and are supposed to lead by example and not go against government orders," he added.

Kenya has imposed a curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. to try to reverse the spread of the new coronavirus.

Kipsang, himself a police officer, pleaded guilty to justice on Friday and was released on bail of 5,000 schillings, or around 43 euros.

The London 2012 Olympic medalist, who broke the 2013 marathon world record in Berlin in 2013, is currently temporarily suspended for "forgery and lack of location" during doping controls by the Integrity Unit of the 'athletics (IAU).

Mwinzi also ordered the arrest of 12 athletes, including two foreigners, who trained in groups on Monday without respecting the rules of social distancing.

The Iten region (west of Kenya) traditionally attracts thousands of elite Kenyan athletes as well as foreigners, who want to take advantage of training at altitude (2,400 m above sea level) to improve their performance.
