The National Police have arrested this Friday on Hacienda de Pavones de Moratalaz street a 45-year-old man who claimed to be sick with coronavirus but who, with the arrival of the help of the agents, tried to attack them with two catanas. The arrested man suffers from a psychiatric disorder and attacked the officers with both bladed weapons and smashed the front windows of a patrol car, an IPU van and a private vehicle.

The events occurred at 1:45 p.m. on Hacienda de Pavones Street. A Samur-Civil Protection unit requested police support to control a man who was very aggressive and who was screaming on the street that he was infected with the coronavirus. When a police call arrived, this individual tried to attack them with two catanas. In ignoring a member of the police callsign, he had to fire two shots into the air.

Officers from the Police Intervention Unit (IPU) then moved to the scene, and they tried to corner the suspect between two cars. Finally, he is cornered between a UIP van and a vehicle and reduced after using shields and hitting him until he released the two catanas.

Yesterday, the National Police arrested 33 people in Madrid for disobeying the authority for breaching the confinement, in addition to 865 sanction proposals. In total, since the start of the state of alarm on March 15, 14,372 sanction proposals have been accumulated and 290 arrested by this police body in the region, according to data from the Superior Police Headquarters.
