Today, Twitter deleted thousands of accounts that it said were linked to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other countries, because it was receiving directions from governments or promoting pro-content, including attacking Qatar and Turkey.

The company stated - in a statement on its website - that it had deleted a network of 5,350 accounts linked to Saudi Arabia, operating from Egypt and the UAE. She added that the deleted accounts would have amplified the content that praises the Saudi leadership and injected messages criticizing the activities of Qatar and Turkey in Yemen.

Twitter also pointed to the deletion of 2541 accounts belonging to an Egyptian media network called "Dawn", explaining that this network created "fake accounts to inflate messages that criticize Iran, Qatar and Turkey, and under the guidance of the Egyptian government.

Serbia and Honduras
The social media company also deleted 8558 accounts promoting the ruling party in Serbia and its leader, Alexander Vucic, and also deleted 3,104 fake accounts created by an employee on behalf of the Honduran government to re-publish the tweets of President Juan Orlando Hernandez's account.

This is not the first time that Twitter has deleted accounts linked to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for violating the publishing policies on the social media platform.

Last December, after weeks of charges by the US authorities of spying for three Saudis for accessing personal data of opponents on Twitter, the company announced that it had deleted about six thousand accounts that were part of an information operation supported by a country and issued by Saudi Arabia.
