The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment decided to suspend the decision to regulate the fishing of "poetic" and "net" fish, starting from next Sunday, for the remainder of the current season, and allow fishing at the state level during this period, to enhance the availability of food commodities in the local market, and in support of the sustainability of the sector Fishing and its workers.
The discontinuation of the decision comes in line with the current state’s directions to enhance the continuity and sustainability of food supply chains in the country’s markets.
The Ministry stressed the need for fishermen and workers on their boats to abide by the preventive and precautionary measures used in the country to reduce the spread of viruses, and to adhere to the preventive measures followed in the markets, and the spacing during the shopping process, and the lack of congestion during the sales and auctions on fish.
It will be available, according to the decision to stop the implementation of Resolution No. (501) for the year 2015, for fishermen to start fishing poetic and pure Arabic fish from next Sunday, and marketing the catches in the local market.
The decision to organize poetic and pure Arab fishing aims to preserve these vital and important types of fish, and to ensure their sustainability and increase their stocks in local waters, by allowing them to breed significantly during the breeding season.
The Ministry has recorded an increase in the catch quantities of net and poetic fish by 30% and 17%, respectively, as a result of implementing the decision to organize fishing annually in conjunction with the breeding season during the period from the first of March to the end of April of each year.
The president of Umm Al Quwain Association for Fishermen, Jassim Ghanem, told «Emirates Today» that the decision aims to compensate the fishermen for the period of weather fluctuations and stop the movement of fishing during the last period, in addition to providing fish in the markets, and to help the fishermen to benefit from the decision and poetic and net Arab fishing , To help them increase their financial income.
He added that the decision will lead to a decrease in fish prices and an increase in the demand for "poetic" and "net" fish, which are among the favorite fish for citizens and residents in the country. It will also lead to a recovery in fish markets and home delivery services.
