The man, who is in his 40s, fought on the Iraqi side against IS in 2015. During his time there, he was photographed along with deceased IS soldiers, images which then spread on social media.

Both in Örebro District Court and Göta Court, the man was convicted of war crime. In the district court, the sentence was 1 year and 3 months imprisonment, while the high court reduced the sentence to 1 year imprisonment.

In October last year, the man appealed, through his lawyer, the High Court judgment and asked the Supreme Court to review the case. In March, HD's decision came, announcing that they will try the case.

The man has previously acknowledged that the images are accurate and that he fought on the Iraqi side against IS during the period, but he has refused the crime.
