The new Corona virus has caused the death of at least 47,993 people in the world since it appeared in China in December, according to a toll compiled by "AFP" based on official figures Thursday.
More than 944,030 cases have been officially registered in 187 countries since the outbreak began. This figure reflects only part of the reality, as a large number of countries no longer perform a test except for those injured whose condition requires hospitalization. So far, at least 182,700 people have recovered.
Italy, which declared the first death linked to the Covid-19 epidemic at the end of February, records the largest number of deaths, with 13,155 out of 110,574 cases. The Italian authorities said that 16,847 people were recovering.
After Italy, the countries most affected by the virus are Spain, with 10,000 and three deaths out of 110,238 cases, the United States with 5137 deaths (216721 cases), France with 4,032 deaths (56989 cases) and mainland China with 3318 deaths (81,589 cases).
China (excluding Hong Kong and Macao), where the virus emerged at the end of December, counted 81,589 infections (35 new cases between Wednesday and Thursday), including 3,318 deaths (six new deaths) and 76,408 cures.
Regarding the number of cases, the United States is at the forefront with 21,721 casualties recorded, including 5,137 deaths and 8,672 recoveries.
In the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", which is recognized only by Ankara, two people were declared dead by the virus.
Europe Thursday 34,574 deaths out of 508,577 cases, the United States and Canada 5248 deaths (226,247 cases), Asia 3994 deaths (111877 cases), the Middle East 3,298 deaths (62,809 cases), Latin America and the Caribbean islands 615 deaths (22157 cases) and Africa 237 deaths (6,416 cases) Oceania has 27 deaths (5949 cases).
