The American Tennis Federation (USTA) announced that the US Open will continue for the dates scheduled from August 31 to September 13, Wednesday, following the announcement of the cancellation of Wimbledon.

"We understand the special circumstances encountered by the All England Lawn and Tennis Club and the reasoning which led it to cancel the Wimbledon 2020 tournament. To date, the USTA maintains its intention to organize the US Open on the dates planned, "said the American Federation.

"The USTA is closely monitoring the rapid development of the pandemic situation and preparing for all eventualities," the statement said.

The American Federation has also made available to the authorities the Flushing Meadows site, which hosts the New York US Open, to build a 350-bed field hospital. In addition, the Louis-Armstrong court, the 2nd largest enclosure of Flushing Meadows, will serve as a giant kitchen to prepare 25,000 meals per day.

New York is the epicenter of the Covid-19 epidemic in the United States.
