April 01, 2020 Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of Wimbledon, the London Slam on grass, has been canceled. "The 134th Championships - reads on the website of the prestigious tournament - will take place from 28 June to 11 July 2021".

"We thought above all about the health and safety of everyone who participates in Wimbledon: from the British public to visitors from all over the world, from players to guests, staff, volunteers, partners and local residents," reads one note on the Wimbledon website, which was due to run from 29 June to 12 July. "It is a decision that we have not taken lightly but following a careful and thorough consideration of all the scenarios. We believe it is right to cancel the Championships this year to focus on how we can use our resources to help our communities local and not only ", the words of Ian Hewitt, president of Aeltc, the All England Club.

It is the first time since the end of the Second World War that a Grand Slam tournament has been canceled. Wimbledon had risked not playing in 1973, when about 80 players, including 13 of the 16 seeded players, boycotted the tournament in support of Nikola Pilic, suspended by the International Federation for refusing to play in the Davis Cup.

It is with great regret that the AELTC has today decided that the Championships 2020 will be canceled due to public health concerns linked to the coronavirus epidemic.

The 134th Championships will instead be staged from 28 June to 11 July 2021.https: //t.co/c0QV2ymGAt
