Italian MotoGP rider Andrea Iannone (Aprilia) has been suspended for 18 months following a positive test for a doping product, the International Disciplinary Court of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) announced on Wednesday.

This suspension runs from December 17, 2019 (date of Iannone's temporary suspension, the time of the investigation) to June 16, 2021.

At the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang on November 3, 2019, the 30-year-old pilot tested positive for drostanolone propionate, an anabolic androgenic steroid, banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the FIM Anti-Doping Code, specifies the instance in its decision.

Iannone is also disqualified from the last two races of the 2019 season, in Malaysia and Valencia (Spain) on November 17, which he had not finished anyway.

As a result, he retained his 16th place in the 2019 ranking with 43 points.
