Among teens and young men, fatal violence is often linked to abuse or crime. But when it comes to children, the violence becomes more difficult to explain, says Mikael Rying, a criminologist at the National Operations Department of the police (Noa).

- The fact that such a young man is armed with a knife and brings it to school indicates that the person is used to conflict, or he is afraid of being subjected to violence himself and carries a knife to defend himself. There may also have been some kind of conflict that has been traced between these two, he says.

However, he emphasizes that it is impossible to know for sure without transparency in the case.

Very unusual

Knife deed happened on Monday at a school in the district of Kortedala, where the now-dead boy was a student. He was struck by a stab in the throat. The murdered boy - even he under 15 - was later arrested in his home and taken care of by social authorities.

The fact that two children are involved in such a serious crime is very unusual, says Mikael Rying, who has gone through all cases of deadly violence thirty years back in time.

Today, more teenagers with a criminal background are involved in shooting. But there is no indication that fatal violence would have increased among children under 15.

- There is nothing in those ages that indicates any increase in this type of crime, says Mikael Rying.

Important learning about the children

Because the murdered boy is not a criminal, there will be no prosecution. However, a so-called evidentiary case may be involved, an unusual process in which the court examines the suspect's guilt without penalty.

- It is important that you learn about these children and find out what is behind them so that you can prevent it in the future.
