Since the start of the health crisis, some criminals have taken advantage of users' panic to develop scams ranging from the marketing of obsolete stocks of masks or hydroalcoholic gel to false calls for donations online, through so-called tests of screening, sold a fortune.

The health crisis does not prevent scams. While France is experiencing its third week of confinement to fight the coronavirus epidemic, some criminals are taking advantage of it: false declarations of travel, adulterated tests, calls for fraudulent donations ... They are betting on users' anxiety and panic . It is therefore better to take some precautions.

Fake good deals on the internet

These scams concern, for example, masks and hydroalcoholic gel, which have become rare commodities. They are sold up to ten times more expensive under the coat in some pharmacies, despite the requisitions of the State. Some crooks do not hesitate to offer expired or non-compliant stocks ... In Paris, a man was indicted at the end of March after the discovery of 23,000 masks, however requisitioned by the State for the professions that need them, in his van.

Do not think you are doing good business online, like this message which offers you a 40% discount on an "infrared thermometer" delivered to your home and which invites you to benefit by clicking on a link, a malicious link. This scam is called phishing: you come to a site that looks like an official site, where you are asked to enter your information on a form. Hackers can then resell them on the black markets, or use them for other more complex attacks.

Check the source of calls for donations

False quality scams are also increasing. In Valencia, a fake doctor went door to door to sell very expensive screening tests. In the Yvelines, an alleged director of the Regional Health Agency has been contacting the Ehpad for a few days, to obtain masks ... Make sure of the identity of those who show up at your door, and if you have any doubts , do not open.

Finally beware of calls for donations sent by email for the so-called benefit of caregivers or patients. If there is any doubt about the sender, go to the official website of the alleged sender on the internet. You can make sure that a donation campaign is underway and that the email address of your contact is the right one, before making any transfer.
