Yesterday, the Palestine Liberation Organization demanded international intervention to pressure Israel to release Palestinian prisoners in its prisons, in light of the threat of the new Corona virus.

The Secretary of the Organization's Executive Committee, Saeb Erekat, urged, in letters to her in this regard, to pressure Israel to respond to the demands and rights of the legitimate prisoners under international law, and to release the most vulnerable and the most affected.

Erekat warned against the danger posed by the Corona virus to elderly and minor prisoners, those who suffer from weak immune systems, chronic diseases, and administrative detainees.

The messages were addressed to: the Secretary General of the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the foreign ministers of the European Union, Russia, China and Britain, and to the Secretary General of the League of Arab States and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The letters complained about the reality of the Israeli prisons, "which lack the foundations of public health, suffering from a policy of deliberate medical negligence, and the lack of doctors, treatment, medical devices and cleaning materials."

And I warned against "arbitrary measures taken by the prison authorities, finally, against the prisoners, and depriving them of more than 140 items, including: cleaning materials, sterilizers, foodstuffs, and other materials at this exceptional time, which threatens a catastrophic catastrophe for more than 5,000 prisoners." .

And he held Erekat Israel, the occupying Power, legal and political responsibility for the life and health of the prisoners, demanding immediate international and legal action, to save them before it was too late.

The Palestinian Prisoner Club had said, the day before yesterday, that there are great concerns over the fate of the prisoners, following the announcement of the registration of new infections, among the ranks of investigators and prisoners with the Corona virus.

In a statement, Al-Asir Club warned that there are fears of the transmission of the virus to the prisoners.
