In the middle of August and five weeks ahead, over two miles of railway tracks will be replaced on the Dalabanan. Then comes a kilometer-long lane change train that will change the track starting just north of Avesta Krylbo station to the entrance to Hedemora station. The work involves replacing rails, grinders, macadam and gears with new material.

- The lane change is one of the more extensive improvements that have taken place on the Dalabanan, and at the same time we are replacing the railway bridge over Sätervägen in Solvarbo. The current track is nearing the end of its technical lifespan and the risk of traffic disruption is increasing. After the change of track, we get a much more reliable facility, says Peter Björklund, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

In Snickarbo and Hedemora, new track gears are added, which gives shorter meeting times for trains that meet. The passengers will then have shorter waiting times at the stations, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.

Can be noisy

The work is to be carried out throughout the day and it can be noisy for nearby residents during the work.

- We do the work during the day, evening and night time and that can mean that there will be a discomfort in the form of noise in central Avesta. It will be short-lived as the track-change train moves relatively fast forward. We will inform the property owners that we believe may be more exposed than the others, says Peter Björklund.

While the lane change is in progress, the route between Avesta and Borlänge will be closed for train traffic.
