- Initially, the regions in Sweden sent their samples to the Public Health Agency. We then sent them to Örebro, but now we have had the opportunity to start up our own analysis function in our microbiological laboratory, ”says Västmanland's infection control physician Jan Smedjegård.
The new operation means that the test answers can be analyzed in a few hours and done several times a day. Previously, the region was not able to answer their samples until the day after they were taken and could only send one set of samples each day.
- We don't have to wait for any transport anymore and have much better capacity as we get this started.
The tests are performed with a cotton swab inserted into the patient's nose. To analyze the samples, materials that the whole world is currently fighting are needed.
