Call for ventilator manufacturers to increase production in preparation for an increase in severely ill patients Government March 30, 19:08

In preparation for an increase in the number of severely ill patients infected with the new coronavirus, the government is calling on ventilator manufacturers to increase production and is considering subsidies for new capital investments.

According to the Japan Society of Respiratory Therapy and the Japan Society of Clinical Engineering Engineers, there are more than 22,000 ventilators in major medical institutions nationwide as of last month.

At this point, 60% of the patients are on standby because few patients need them, but it is pointed out that if the number of severely ill patients infected with the new coronavirus increases, the respiratory tract may become insufficient. .

Imports account for much of this, but it is uncertain whether imports will be stable in the future due to growing demand in each country.

For this reason, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has begun calling on domestic manufacturers of respirators to increase production. Since the production of respirators requires the approval of the government and it takes time to start new production, we are calling on manufacturers who have worked in the past to resume production.

At the same time, when the government makes new capital investments, the government is considering subsidizing some of these costs, and is urged to increase production.

Chief Cabinet Secretary `` Securing domestic supply system ''

At a press conference in the afternoon, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kan said, "We have secured more than 8,000 respirators so far. The government has asked manufacturers to increase production and imports in Japan in preparation for the future spread of infection. I think that the first priority should be to secure a domestic supply system by working with us. "
