The corona virus has a genetic mass that is easily altered by mutations. But these mutations usually do not lead to the virus becoming more dangerous, but rather the virus spreads more easily when we do not get so sick.

- If we get mildly ill, we tend to be out in the community more and then we infect more people, says microbiologist Mia Brytting.

The virus thrives more on certain surfaces

It is known that the corona virus can be spread between people through handles and other surfaces.

In an American study, researchers tested how long the virus can survive on different types of surfaces, stainless steel, plastic, copper and cardboard.

It turned out that the virus thrived best on plastic and stainless steel where it could survive for up to three days. The researchers also concluded that the virus can stay in the air for up to three hours.

The experiments were carried out in a lab environment where there were no external factors that could affect the results. Therefore, the result may vary in reality.

Several things affect

How long a coronavirus can survive on, for example, a door handle depends on factors such as how much virus the door handle was infected with and if the sun is on, when it inactivates the virus.

- It also depends on the humidity. If the air is dry, the virus will not survive. Then it also depends on the temperature, says Mia Brytting.
