During a press conference, held on Saturday March 28th alongside Edouard Philippe, Olivier Véran announced new containment rules in nursing homes, in order to limit the spread of the new coronavirus in these establishments. Elderly people are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. More details on Europe 1.

The government wanted to answer questions from the French. And during the press conference organized on Saturday, with Edouard Philippe, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran notably addressed the new containment rules which will now frame the Ehpad. They concern the residents but also the staff of these establishments. Strict rules for older people who are more exposed and vulnerable to the new coronavirus.

Individual isolation, surgical masks, limitation of personnel outings

If we do not know the number of deaths in these establishments, caused by Covid-19, the elderly population is more fragile faced with this disease. Thus, in its strategy of "fighting" against the epidemic the government plans several measures.

Here are the new rules specified by the government:

  • The individual isolation of each resident in the 7,000 nursing homes in France, in the bedrooms. A way "to prevent as much as possible the contagion of this fragile population (...) Some already do it on the national territory", according to Olivier Véran
  • The daily destocking of 500,000 surgical masks for nursing home staff
  • The priority screening test for staff working in nursing homes
  • The least possible exits of staff working in Ehpad "to take the least risk that he returns with the virus", according to the Minister of Health
