The Public Health Authority advises against travel to Öland. There is great concern among the camp owners as to how the corona eruption will affect this year's season.

Cancellations have started to come

At Saxnäs campsite, located just north of the Öland Bridge, preparations are underway as usual. It is still empty on the lawns but at the end of April the first seasonal guests are expected to arrive. At midsummer, tourists come.

- We have had some cancellations, mainly the foreign guests whose events have been canceled and who are not allowed to leave their countries. But also people who work in health care and older people who do not know if they dare to go, says Catrin Sörensson, CEO of Saxnäs camping.

New routines

This season the camp is facing several changes to avoid many gathering at the same place. Instead of a long queue and crowd at the reception, guests will be checked in in advance and receive an envelope with contracts and keys when they arrive.

- We will have extended cleaning routines and take-away in restaurants. All the solutions we can come up with.

Supports each other

Catrin Sörensson, chairman of the camping organization Camping Öland with 22 members, has close contact with its members.

- No one has any sure answers. We support each other and tip each other. We don't know where this is going to land. But we still have the hope that summer will be able to flow as usual, that it will change in three months.

Many are worried about what it will be like.

- You can't lie down and die. We must fight on, says Catrin Sörensson.
