In connection with the Government's recommendation to introduce distance education at, among other things, upper secondary schools from March 18, school food also ceased to be served to the students at the county's upper secondary schools.

There is no law requiring upper secondary schools to serve free school food, but it is up to each municipality or principal to decide how to do so.

SVT Uppsala has asked the county's municipalities with upper secondary schools if they offer any alternative to the school lunch for the students who are now at home, and here they have answered:

  • Knivsta municipality: At present, no lunch is served to the high school students, but the education office is working to resolve the issue.
  • Uppsala Municipality: Previously, no compensation was offered for school meals, but on Friday, Uppsala Municipality announced its intention to support particularly vulnerable high school students with lunch.
  • Enköping Municipality : We are looking at the possibility of offering lunch to our high school students, but we have not landed in any decision yet.
  • Håbo Municipality: The diet unit looks at this together with the child and youth administration.
  • Tierp Municipality: At first, the students were not offered any school food, but on Wednesday, March 25 a new message came: The school and the dietary organization have thought of, and set up an order page for food boxes for the Högberg School's distance-plugging high school students.
