EXCLUSIVE

After a week and a half of confinement due to the coronavirus epidemic, French morale has relapsed since Friday. According to a BVA study published on Saturday for Europe 1 and Orange, almost one in four French people, or 23% of those questioned, described their mood by giving it a score of 4 out of 10, compared to 19% on Friday. And the average note communicated by the respondents is 6, against 6.1 on Friday.

Three-quarters of French people think the worst of the crisis is yet to come

More worrying, the BVA study again shows strong pessimism from the French regarding the events, while the government announced Friday the extension of the confinement until April 15. Thus, three quarters of those polled believe that the worst of the crisis is coming, while only 4% of them think that the worst of the epidemic has already passed.

This ambient pessimism is found at all levels, including in the report of citizens to the press and to their government. There is therefore a drop in the confidence of the French, both in the information communicated by the media (40% confident, -3 points), and by that distilled by the executive (39%, -2 points). In addition, confidence in the government's handling of the crisis is also eroding. Only 36% of French people say they are confident, a drop of two points compared to Friday.

Teleworkers losing confidence

The French are also less optimistic than a few days ago about the solidity of their personal or professional situation. Confidence in the financial situation of their household for the next few weeks loses 2 points and drops to 51%. The confidence of employees and the self-employed in the ability of their company to cope with the crisis also fell (56%, -2 points).

While the confinement has been extended until April 15, millions of French people will therefore have to continue working from their home. But among teleworkers, fatigue sets in, notes the BVA institute. 60% of employees consider it easy to work from home, 5 points less than Friday. Finally, while the last poll showed an increase in respondents' confidence in their ability to take care of their children while teleworking, this last drop by 6 points (58%).
