2 806 people have been infected in Sweden by the corona virus, according to the Swedish National Health Authority's daily update on Thursday. So far, 178 patients have been treated intensively, most of them in Stockholm.

This is also where the number of infected persons has increased significantly in recent days, according to Anders Tegnell. Yesterday, 18 coronavirus deaths were reported in the region. Tegnell believes that the pressure on health care is great, but he emphasizes that it is important to keep the development apart from the spread of infection and the pressure on health care.

- Although they are connected to each other, they are never in the same position. Gradually, pressure is now building up, although the curve is not that big, says Tegnell.

Day zero can be in Stockholm

Tegnell also gets the question whether Stockholm is on day zero, the day when the curve starts to go uphill and more drastic measures may be needed.

- It's not unbelievable that we are. But we need a few days or so to know it, he says.

Most deceased over 80 years

A total of 66 people have died in Sweden as a result of the corona virus. According to Tegnell, it is primarily people over 80 who die. It is slightly more men than women.

- Those who die now are those who were infected maybe four weeks ago, says Tegnell.

"IVA capacity still available"

Deputy emergency response manager Taha Alexandersson on the National Board of Health and Welfare says that there is so far capacity for intensive care in the regions of the country. For example, in Stockholm, a military field hospital is currently being erected at the Stockholm Fair in Älvsjö with some 30 intensive care sites.

- There is still IVA capacity in all regions and these are now being gradually built up, says Alexandersson.

She also says that the urgent need for protective equipment is satisfied.
