The Minister of State for Information Affairs, Amjad Al-Adayleh, announced on Thursday evening that the Irbid Governorate, in the north of the Kingdom, was completely isolated from the rest of the governorates due to a rise in the number of Corona virus infections in it.

Al-Adayleh, who is also a government spokesman, said during a press conference that "the situation in Irbid Governorate, despite the increase in the number of injuries, is still under control."

He urged citizens "who had contact with the injured to go immediately to the nearest hospital for a medical examination."

For his part, Minister of Health Saad Jaber said that he had registered 40 new cases in the kingdom on Thursday, 26 in the Irbid governorate (65 percent of the injuries recorded on Thursday) and 14 in the capital (Amman).

This brought the number of injuries recorded in Jordan to 212, including two recovered cases, according to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra).

In total, 68 injuries were recorded in Irbid, constituting about 32 percent of the total number of injuries, most of which resulted from contact with injured persons who came from outside the Kingdom to participate in a wedding.

The population of Irbid is about 1.8 million, out of a population of approximately 9.5 million.

And Jaber considered that "this sudden rise in numbers is a dangerous indicator and we are at an important crossroads."

He called on citizens to adhere to the curfew and not leave the house except for the most urgent necessities and to provide for the needs of families only.
