People over the age of 70 have been asked by the Public Health Authority to stay away from larger crowds to avoid being infected by the corona virus. For some older people, there may be problems when it comes to shopping for food.

As of this week, therefore, the Municipality of Berg offers all residents over 70 to have food delivered home once a week from their nearest store once a week.

- It is a matter of course, says Therese Kärngard (S). We have to make sure that our residents can get food.

The region pays half

All grocery stores in the municipality participate in the home delivery and the customer orders goods from the store which then delivers free of charge. The groceries are paid by the customer. The Jämtland Region Härjedalen accounts for up to 50 per cent of the cost of this through a home delivery grant.

- We have set a ceiling on the cost to us of SEK 200,000, says Therese Bengard.

The offer is valid until 31 July.

The money in the region is taken from the state grant for Regional Growth Measures. According to Ville Welin at Region Jämtland Härjedalen, more municipalities in the county are on the same offer.
