The Consumer Agency has received almost 1,700 questions and complaints so far in March, which can be compared with a total of 8 in January. Of the many registrations that are made, many are aimed at airlines and travel agents who have not been able to notify if customers can cancel and receive money back.

Yalda Amani has been seeking answers from Norwegian airline and travel agent Tripmonster for over a week. She has booked a trip to England on March 31, and has been able to read through the news about the severe restrictions imposed in the country.

After 10-15 attempts to reach the airline, the airports and the travel agent, she has still not been informed of what this means for her booking.

- I get really annoyed because I have to spend all my time on this. Every lunch I call them. I don't know what I can say to my boss whether I can work or not, she says.

Refers to travel agents

On their website Norwegian writes that they primarily help those who have booked flights for the next 48 hours. Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson, communications manager at Norwegian, says the pressure on their customer service is enormous right now.

- This is an extremely demanding situation, both for us as an airline and for our travelers, as travel restrictions continue to change.

Anyone who has booked a trip through an intermediary is referred to it. But many travel agents are difficult to reach, and often refer back to the airlines, according to reports to the Swedish Consumer Agency.

Yalda Amani has sought out his travel agent Tripmonster via both e-mail and telephone.

- When I called today I got two choices. If it was about the corona virus, I would press "1" and they would immediately apply. Then I called and chose "2". Then I ended up in line for 45 minutes and then they hung up, she says.

Offers vouchers upon cancellation

Maja Lindstrand, a lawyer at the Swedish Consumer Agency, says that there can be problems with cancellations when the trip is booked through a travel agency.

- Then the airline can refer to the intermediary. But as a consumer you have the right to get the money from the airline, you do not have to accept it, she says.

Both Norwegian and SAS offer reimbursement for canceled flights. Travelers who wish to cancel flights that have not yet been canceled according to the Foreign Ministry's advice are offered various forms of gift cards for upcoming trips.

The Consumer Agency urges those who are unable to get money back to submit a complaint to the General Complaints Board to try the case there.

- The fact that the Foreign Ministry has refrained from traveling to the whole world has never happened before. There are situations now that have not been tried before legally, says Maja Lindstrand, lawyer at the Consumer Agency.
