March 24, 2020 President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella launched a message on the day of the commemoration of the massacre of the Fosse Ardeatine. "This year, with great regret, it will not be possible to meet, on the day of the 76th anniversary, at the Mausoleum of the Fosse Ardeatine to listen, together with their families and with always equal emotion, to the names of the martyrs. I wish, with the same intensity manifested in the annual ceremony, express their affection, closeness and memory ".

"The Ardeatine massacre -he adds- constituted one of the most painful pages in the recent history of our country. The values ​​of respect for life and solidarity that support us in this period, marked by a serious health emergency, reinforce the duty to to pay homage to those innocent dead. Such atrocious events, the result of the will to overcome and racism, continue to remind us of the fundamental values ​​of memory, peace and solidarity ".
