The Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, stressed on Tuesday that the failure to comply with the state of alarm to combat Covid-19 has already led to the first criminal convictions, something he said has occurred in Santa Cruz de Tenerife , where a Judge has imposed penalties of four months in prison for not respecting the quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Marlaska referred to this issue in the press conference that he gave this afternoon in La Moncloa together with the head of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.

The head of the Interior explained that, although the majority of Spaniards are respecting confinement, there are non-responsible citizens who are being unsupportive with the health of the rest. For this reason, he stressed that this Tuesday another 130 people were arrested and 20,000 new complaints were made, so since last Saturday, when the state of alarm was decreed, 926 were arrested and 102,000 complaints were raised.
