The Rail Agency of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority recently implemented the Remote Condition Monitoring System, which enables data collection of railway switches' status without any human intervention and analysis using special algorithms, which allows to predict the faults of these vital intersections before They occur and take proactive measures to avoid any major malfunction that may cause delays in the service of the Dubai Metro.

For his part, Director of Maintenance Department at the Rail Agency, Mohammed Al-Amiri, said: “The implementation of (remote asset status monitoring system) is one of the important steps towards the transition from traditional maintenance methods to the latest and most advanced maintenance methods to predictive maintenance, which depends on anticipating faults before they occur.

He added: "The system has contributed significantly to reducing the breakdowns of railroad crossings in a very large way, which reflected on enhancing the accuracy of the performance of the Dubai Metro network and also contributed to reducing the costs resulting in the event of a service interruption."

He said that the implementation of this system comes as part of the authority’s commitment and its constant eagerness to use the latest findings in modern and innovative technologies in the metro transportation sector, which will of course be reflected in providing the highest levels of service in this field and the most safe and comfortable for the public from the metro users based on its vision in the movement Safe and easy for everyone
Al-Amiri added: "The application of (remote asset status monitoring system) will lead to the adoption of a predictive maintenance system in the future, and helps in analyzing asset data, determining its performance model, and pre-planning to adopt a more efficient and effective maintenance system which reduces failure ratios and improves and develops levels of maintaining metro assets."

He continued: "This system also enables the optimal use of these assets, which plays an important and vital role in reducing costs, which are usually spent in cases of traditional maintenance of the metro, and thus will contribute to reducing costs and developing revenues, and contribute effectively to achieving the required performance indicators, Whether those related to operation or maintenance, as well as strengthening the efforts of the Authority aimed at participating in transforming the Emirate of Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world.
