Coronavirus in France: containment and extension, the Macron method in question

In France, the Scientific Council gave its opinion Tuesday evening and estimated that an extension of the confinement was "essential" up to six weeks at least. But for the moment, the executive is not ruling.

How long will the confinement that began in France on March 17 last? To this question, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, the last member of the government to speak on Tuesday evening, did not provide an answer, any more than the Prime Minister the day before. The only indication given by Édouard Philippe: “ The time of confinement can still last a few weeks. "

Yes, but how much? The answer can obviously only be provided by the President of the Republic who has undertaken to address the French regularly .

Since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, Emmanuel Macron has always based his decisions on the advice of the Scientific Council. A Council which recommended an extension of the confinement until April 28.

Will the Head of State follow the recommendation this time? Olivier Véran hinted that reflection was underway and that the recommendation of the Scientific Council was an " estimate ". A way of sparing the hypothesis of another choice.

The principle of an extension is established, the minds have been gradually prepared for it. Emmanuel Macron, who was said at the start of his five-year term to be the master of clocks, wants to choose the moment to announce his decision on the duration of confinement.
