Coronavirus: Trump wants "America to go back to work"
Text by: Anne Corpet Follow
The American president hopes that the American economy will return to its normal activity at Easter, that is to say in a little more than two weeks. This is what he said this Tuesday during an interview on the Fox News television channel. A statement comes as the World Health Organization describes the United States as the likely next epicenter of the pandemic. But for Donald Trump, closing businesses is more dangerous than the virus itself.

" The remedy must not be worse than the disease, " is Donald Trump's new refrain. Worried about a possible recession, the American president evokes since Sunday his impatience in front of the stop of the economic activity of the country.
" Our country was not built to be closed, " he said. Our people are full of vigor, energy, people do not want to be locked in a house or an apartment. We are not made like that. And you know, you can destroy a country by closing it like that. It is very painful for our country and very destabilizing. A lot of people, and I think more people, will die if this situation is allowed to continue and we have to go back to work. "
The President has set a deadline for the resumption of activities: Easter Day. Asked a little later about CNN, Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate replied: " I think he should listen to scientific experts! He is not a scientist! Let the experts speak. "
Within the republican party, some rare elected officials dared to contradict the president. This is the case of Liz Cheney who spoke on Twitter: " There will be no normal functioning of the economy if our hospitals are overwhelmed and if thousands of Americans die because we do not have does what it takes to stop the virus, "wrote party number three in the House of Representatives.
