With reference to the appeal of the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to keep the operations of the agri-food supply chain active to guarantee the supply of essential food and drinks to the population, Coldiretti intervenes with a declaration and a recent investigation. "With the growing difficulties at the borders between countries, the food supply of Italians in supermarkets is ensured by national agriculture which ranks first in the Community for the number of businesses and added value thanks to the production records, from durum wheat to the pasta with rice, from wine to many fruit and vegetables but also for the leadership in quality products such as cold cuts and cheeses ".

" It is now necessary to avoid unnecessary and dangerous lines to supermarkets with almost 1 in 3 Italians (30%) who cannot resist even 72 hours before having to go out to shop in shops, supermarkets and foodstuffs, according to the Coldiretti / Ixe survey ' from which it emerges that in 38% of Italian homes stocks of food and drinks have been amassed for the unjustified fear of not finding them available on the shelves.

From the detailed survey, it emerges that mainly: pasta, rice and cereals (26%), then milk, cheese, fruit and vegetables (17%), then canned products (15%), meat and fish (14 %), cold cuts and sausages (7%) and wine and beer (5%). Irrational behavior that - continues Coldiretti - puts pressure on the work of over 3 million Italians who continue to operate in the food supply chain, from the countryside to industry to transport, to shops and supermarkets, to ensure continuity of food supplies and drinks to the population. A reality that extended from the fields to the shelves is worth 538 billion euros equal to 25% of GDP thanks to the work of 740 thousand farms, 70 thousand food industries and 230 thousand points of sale in Italy, including hypermarkets (911) supermarkets (21,101), food discount stores (1,716), minimarkets (70,081) and other stores (138,000) ".
