Jenny Berg from Umeå is one of the initiators of the project “Dance at a distance”, which involves people in different geographical locations meeting and dancing together with the help of internet connection.

- I am passionate about dance and I want to develop a virtual dance school that will be able to connect the whole world, says organizer Jenny Berg of the dance school.

A major challenge for the municipality of Åsele is to get young people to want to stay in an increasingly sparsely populated society. Åsele has since the 50s lost most inhabitants in the country to the surface. Maybe this kind of ingenuity and modern technology can be a way to do just that.

"So damn scary"

Jenny Berg is herself a dancer and thanks to her contact with South Africa, the dance students in Åsele got the chance to dance with Cape Town, in real time.

- We got really nervous when we were told that we were going to dance with the South Africans. It was so scary, says student Elin Åman.

- Think it worked! This is the first time we are connecting with South Africa, ”says Jenny Berg.

In the clip above you can see what it looked like when the two worlds met and danced together.
