March 21, 2020The transfer operations of the passengers of the Costa Luminosa ship, moored in the port of Savona from the morning with 84 symptomatic people on compulsory isolation in dedicated cabins, begin. The goal is to disembark all passengers, Italian and foreign, who can be accompanied to their home through the organization of organized transport protection of the Civil Protection with the Red Cross, in collaboration with Costa Crociere.

This emerged during the videoconference meeting of the Rescue Coordination Committee, coordinated by the Prefecture of Savona in the presence of the President of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, the Vice-President and Councilor for Health Sonia Viale and the Councilor for Civil Protection Giacomo Giampedrone. "The visits on board by Usmaf (Maritime Health Offices) have concluded - explains the President of the Region, Giovanni Toti - the first to leave this afternoon on dedicated buses will be the Ligurians, together with the other Italians residing in the central north regions, while compatriots residing in central-southern Italy will leave tomorrow morning ".

It remains to resolve the issue related to passengers and crew members who, symptomatic or positive to Covid-19, will remain on board or will be taken to a ground-based facility suitable for quarantine: "We reiterated in all locations that Liguria cannot manage this match by itself - Toti underlined - neither in health nor in civil protection. Our region is fourth in Italy for infections, we try to keep up and so far we have not had to choose who to treat and who not: this ship would risk being the drop that overflows the vessel because we do not have enough beds for intensive care or medium intensity to take care of passengers who need hospitalization ".

For this reason, once the transfers of passengers with protected transport have been made, "either the ship will be moved to another place where there is a greater availability of beds in hospitals, or, if you remain in Savona, it will have to be managed with transport outside Liguria of patients who should get sick and need hospitalization - Toti said - On our part there is the utmost collaboration to guarantee all the lightening operations of the ship in the shortest possible time and with all possible means ".
