Ten people have died and almost 1400 have now been infected by Covid-19 in Sweden. Of these, a total of 35 people have been intensive care, according to state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

- It is obvious that we have a social spread in Sweden. In Stockholm, we expect that there will be significantly more cases in the next few days, ”he said during a press conference on Thursday.

In order to prevent the virus from spreading to parts of Sweden that are less affected, domestic travel should also be limited, says Anders Tegnell, especially to and from the big cities.

- There is a big difference between Stockholm and the rest of Sweden. Traveling to and from a metropolitan area can also spread infection. It is good that we can keep the spread at different rates in the country so that the regions can help each other, he says.

"Important to have a plan b"

In addition to keeping down on travel, Tegnell reiterates the importance of staying at home when feeling sick, avoiding contact with the elderly and vulnerable, and working from home if possible.

Maria Bergstrand, at the Swedish Agency for Social Protection and Emergency Preparedness (MSB), says that it is important to have a “plan b” for socially important activities when a large part of the staff cannot get to work and deliveries are absent.

- Problems with critical flow of goods may arise in the long term, but I would like to clarify, however, that this does not apply to toilet paper or food products, she says during the press conference.
