The rescue services in Skåne want to use the stuffed mask

In Svedala, you see it as a preventive measure in case you get cases with suspected coronary infection.

"At the moment we can use disposable materials, but unfortunately we have very little of it," says Mikael Jönsson, rescue manager in Svedala municipality.

As an alternative if disposable articles run out, protective equipment for germ diving is currently available, but it is not considered suitable for use in case of illness.

Staffanstorp has also applied for an exemption from the Swedish Work Environment Authority to use the protective mask developed by the Swedish Armed Forces in the 1990s.

- We have an old warehouse since the 90s, but they will work. Now it's just about getting permission to use them, says Bertil Persson, rescue manager in Staffanstorp.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority must approve the applications before they are used because they do not have the CE marking.

The rescue services attempted to obtain a dispensation for all rescue services through the county administrative board, but received in response that each unit needs to apply for a dispensation separately.

To make sure that the masks are still intact, a facial adjustment of the masks and a test with tear gas is made, says Mikael Jönsson.
