Queen Elizabeth will be confined to Windsor Castle before the expansion of the coronavirus. Buckingham Palace has announced that the 93-year-old monarch will move to her Berkshire county residence on Thursday, where she usually spends weekends, and will remain there at least until Easter.

The objective of the transfer is to follow the recommendations of the British Government regarding the expansion of the coronavirus. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on people over 70 to avoid nonessential contacts and travel. The queen will be 94 next month, and although she can boast of iron health, her advanced age makes her more vulnerable to the virus.

The British royal house has specified that the hearings that were scheduled until Thursday, which includes a meeting with the prime minister, will continue.

Windsor Castle, located 40 kilometers from London, is the Queen's favorite residence, which she considers as her home in front of Buckingham, where she usually lives during the week but considers it more as a cold and uncomfortable official residence. There he spends weekends and Easter holidays. For the summer holidays he usually opts for Balmoral, in Scotland, and Christmas is celebrated in Sandringham. In Windor he also spent the years of World War II, sheltered from the bombings on London.

Windsor is much more than the oldest inhabited castle in the world (from the 11th century). It is a walled complex, with almost five hectares of gardens and land where other residences and mansions are located, in which several children of the queen reside, such as Andrés and Eduardo. The residence of the Dukes of Sussex is also located on the grounds of Windor.

Weddings such as Harry and Meghan's or Princess Eugenie's have been held at the castle, as well as receptions for high-ranking international leaders.

In 1992 it suffered a devastating fire that damaged a large part of its facilities. The castle was restored after five years of work and cost £ 37m.
