Protective masks against the coronavirus "reserved" for health professionals will be distributed in pharmacies "until Thursday," announced government spokesman Sibeth Ndiaye on Tuesday.

"Trucks are currently driving all over France to drop masks in pharmacies," said Ms. Ndiaye during the report of the Council of Ministers, adding that "as of this evening (Tuesday) and until Thursday this distribution of masks in pharmacies will take place ".

It "will give priority to health professionals to be provided with masks" which "must be reserved in priority for hospital and city medicine".

"The French will not be able to buy masks in pharmacies because it is not necessary when you are not sick," she insisted.

"Our priority today is that caregivers can have these masks," said Ms. Ndiaye, because "this first line of caregivers, if it is itself too infected with the coronavirus", then "we are going to the front of serious difficulties ".

This doctrine also requires "managing the stock sparingly" to be able to "subscribe over time", she added.
