The professional surfing league (WSL) canceled all of the pro circuit events on Tuesday until the end of May due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, causing an upheaval in the calendar.

Erik Logan, the boss of the World Surf League (WSL) which organizes the circuit, had already announced Sunday the cancellation of the first stage, scheduled for the end of the month on the site of Snappers Rocks in Gold Coast, in the State of Queensland.

This measure was extended Tuesday to the next two stages planned at Bells Beach (Victoria) and Margaret River (Western Australia).

The maintenance of the Quiksilver Pro G-Land, which is due to return to the world surfing calendar in June in Indonesia, is not certain.

"We intend to start the 2020 Championship Tour season, and all of our events, as soon as possible," said Logan in a statement.

"We are currently developing different scenarios for a reorganized 2020 tour," said the WSL boss.

He explained that the quarantine measures taken for travelers arriving from abroad, constantly evolving around the world, make planning for the start of the season very difficult.

All people arriving in Australia are placed in auto-quarantine for fourteen days.

Surfing is set to make its big Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games this summer.
