Thousands of Skåne's high school students will be educated at a distance from Wednesday. This is after the government on Tuesday recommended upper secondary schools and adult education to be kept at a distance because of the corona situation.

On Thursday, Malmö's upper secondary schools and adult education will close, affecting nearly 14,000 students.

- We had foreseen this scenario and we already had preparedness and an action plan for online teaching. So from Thursday we will change, says Lars Rehnberg, high school and adult education director in Malmö.

Within the City of Malmö, no time limit has been set for how long the students will be taught at a distance.

- We see a situation where this can last for a relatively long time.

Is there a concern with you how this affects the students?

- There is a challenge in this. It is especially important to observe students who need special support, where we need to pay attention to how to give the support they need, says Lars Rehnberg.

Independent school in Ystad also closes

Even at the Practical High School in Ystad, which is part of AcadeMedia, you close the school according to the government's recommendation.

- The students who have APL (workplace-based learning), and where the workplace receives them, where we think it is better that the students are there. For the rest, we will have presence control via digital systems, ”says Gert-Ove Sigurdhsson, headmaster of Praktiska highnasiet in Ystad.

At the school there are 180 students who will be taught remotely from Wednesday.

The City of Helsingborg also follows the authorities' recommendations. Around 3,700 students are affected when the high schools are closed.

At 14 o'clock on Tuesday, Lund Municipality also announced at a press conference that the municipality would close its upper secondary schools.

- The municipality of Lund complies with the recommendations of the authorities. Invites everyone to do so, says Philip Sandberg (L), chairman of the municipal council in Lund.
