Patrick Allemand (PS) and Mireille Damiano (ViVA!) Fell during the first round of the 2020 municipal elections in Nice - AFP / J. Hauvel / ANP / 20 Minutes

  • The ViVA list! led by Mireille Damiano received 8.91% of the vote, while Patrick German's "Nice at heart" list recorded 6.57%.
  • Only Jean-Marc Governatori's "Nice ecological" list (11.30%) exceeded the 10% qualifier for the second round.
  • Environmentalists came third in the first round, behind Christian Estrosi (LR, 47.6%) and Philippe Vardon (RN, 16.7%).

With three separate lists, the left approached this first round of municipal elections in Nice in the division. Disagreements that foreshadowed a political hara-kiri. This Sunday, March 15, the democratic verdict fell: neither the socialist list “Nice in the heart” led by Patrick Allemand, nor the list “ViVA! By Mireille Damiano will not appear in the second round postponed to June.

"A narrow shooting window"

With 8.91% of the votes cast, the ViVA! Citizen gathering, supported by the PCF, Generation. s, La France Insoumise and Ensemble!, misses the point by a small point. “Having started with 4 or 5% of voting intentions, and ending with almost 9% of the votes, we can only be satisfied with this momentum. We are in a dynamic that we will continue. That means that we will continue to go on the ground, to participate in the municipal council, to relay the dispute, to collect the opinion of the Nice people and to build a real alternative ", reacts the lawyer Mireille Damiano, who swears" have no regrets ”.

For his part, Patrick Allemand (PS) says he is "disappointed but not affected" by his result of 6.57%, against 15.25% in the first round in 2014. In a Facebook post, the one who was a city councilor during the two recent terms explains that he knew that "the shooting window would be narrow", before tackling the other two candidates in the form of customs clearance.

Solo green people

Only the “Nice ecological” list (EELV-AEI) is doing well on the left. With 11.30% of the vote, she won her ticket for a triangular in the second round against the outgoing mayor LR Christian Estrosi (47.6%) and the candidate RN Philippe Vardon (16.7%). “It's a historic score for ecology in Nice. We hoped for a higher score but the conditions of the election mean that we are already very satisfied to be in the second round, ”said head of list Jean-Marc Governatori. And to add: "In the second round, we can go and get the abstainers and count on the carryover of the votes of the eliminated candidates to become the second political force of the fifth city of France. "

A posture which does not pass with Mireille Damiano: “This list gives itself the name of“ ecological ”but its program is not up to such a qualification. When we have someone who, just last night (Sunday), said that the interest of this list is neither right nor left, we who carry values from the left, that causes us concern. "

As for whether Jean-Marc Governatori is ready for a possible merger with his two closest opponents, his answer is clear: “No merger, no drums. We talk to all voters (including those from the eliminated lists) and we make a record score on the second return. "
