Tramway in Bordeaux - M.Bosredon / 20Minutes

  • Thirty drivers of the TMB network (Transports Bordeaux Métropole) exercised their right of withdrawal due to a suspected case of coronavirus on one of their colleagues. The drivers were demanding better security at their work station.
  • Following an agreement between Keolis, the manager of the public transport network, and union organizations, 20 Minutes learned this Sunday evening that the transport offer would be adapted as of this Monday.
  • The cabins of the trams will be fully disinfected at each change of driver and a “security airlock” will be created between them and the passengers. The tram and bus lines will be fully cleaned every evening.

A suitable transport offer. Kéolis Bordeaux Métropole, which had a “hectic day” this Sunday, has chosen to modify its TBM network transport plan and secure the work station of its drivers due to national health measures linked to the coronavirus epidemic. As of this Monday, and until further notice, trams and buses will only run from 6.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. The first in slow motion with a tram every 7 minutes 30 on the central section and every fifteen minutes on the branches. The latter, at the rate of a restricted service with lines that do not run, others with reduced frequencies.

On Sunday, many Bordeaux residents had to make do without public transport almost to go to vote: bus and tram drivers exercised their right of withdrawal after a "suspicion of coronavirus" in a driver and after a social and economic committee ( CSE) extraordinary, Friday, "which had led us to believe that Kéolis was not taking the full extent of the problem," says one side of the CGT.

Service doors blocked, disinfected cabins

As of Monday morning, a security "airlock" will therefore be established between the driver and the passengers. The climb will be at the back of the tram and the service doors, located near the cabin, will be blocked, indicated by tape. The first row of seats behind the cabins, on each side of the trams, will also be condemned. The operator consoles and cabins will be cleaned at each driver changeover. “Cleaning agents will be present to disinfect everything at Quinconces and Stalingrad. Same thing in the evening, for whole trains, "says the CGT, which claims to have" gone to the maximum of what it is possible to do to protect the more than 1,700 drivers before taking more drastic measures ".

Ditto for the buses that will be cleaned and in which drivers and passengers will be kept away by a row of condemned seats. Another measure taken by the manager of the TBM public transport network is the ban on drivers selling tickets. Transport tickets had to be purchased from TBM dealers, distributors on the network or by downloading the "Witick" application.

Due to the sanitary measures linked to Covid-19, the transport offer of the Tbm network is adapted, on March 16 and 17 circulation of the #TBMTram and #TBMBus network only from 6:30 am to 8:30 pm with reduced frequency. Find the details on: https://t.co/QYgkG8lWmU pic.twitter.com/j6SHFOaY06

Region takes special measures

What about this "suspected coronavirus" in a driver? According to Kéolis Bordeaux Métropole, she had symptoms, was examined by a doctor and had to stay at home "at least forty-eight hours". "She did not return from a confined space, was in contact with travelers and frequented the company's rest rooms," adds one. However, nothing today indicates whether or not it is a carrier of the virus since tests are only carried out on serious cases. "

The New Aquitaine Region, for its part, asked all of its carriers to apply from Monday exceptional measures: temporary free to avoid contact as much as possible between the driver and users (ticket sale , exchanging currency, etc.), passengers getting in through the back door of the coaches (to guarantee social distance), strengthening the cleaning of coaches.
