All the liturgical celebrations of Easter week will be held without worshipers in St. Peter's Square, because of coronavirus, announced the Vatican on Sunday. Over 21,000 Italians have tested positive, including 3,500 in the past 24 hours.

"Due to the current international health emergency, all the liturgical celebrations of Holy Week will be held without the physical presence of the faithful," wrote in a statement the Prefecture of the Pontifical House. In the same press release, the Vatican specifies that "until April 12, the general audiences of the Holy Father and the recitations of the Angelus will only be visible by streaming on the official Vatican News website".

According to the balance sheet published on Saturday evening, 1,441 people have now been killed by the coronavirus in Italy, by far the most affected country in Europe. Over 21,000 Italians have tested positive, including 3,500 in the past 24 hours.
