• Tragedy: three children of ASOS owner Anders Holch Povlsen die in Sri Lanka bombings
  • Support: The owner of Asos buries his children, killed in Sri Lanka, before the Danish princes

In May 2019, Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen (47) - sole owner of brands such as Vero Moda, Only and Jack & Jones, as well as the largest shareholder of ASOS and an investor in Zalando - suffered the worst tragedy of his life: three of his four Sons died during a series of explosive attacks in Sri Lanka. Alma (15), Agnes (12) and Alfred (5) were at the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo when the attack happened. Initially, his parents did not issue a statement. Although, a couple of days later, Anders, along with his wife Anne, decided to write an open letter to thank everyone who supported them during their mourning.

"We extend our sincere gratitude for the condolences, empathy and for the loving steps we have received, after the tragic loss of our three dear and beautiful children. (...) We are mired in sadness, but we are also truly grateful that let's stick together with our daughter Astrid 10. The memory of our children, their wonderful spirit and souls will always be in our hearts, "they published in two newspapers in Scotland, where Anders is the owner of 11 castles and the largest landowner private.

In this way, a month after their painful loss, the Povlsen decided to take refuge in the Scottish county of Sutherland, where they spent a few days. "It was a family vacation. They greatly appreciate the sympathy they have received from the Scots," their spokesperson told a newspaper. However, from that moment on, little was heard from Anders, his wife and daughter ... Until, this March, they announced that they had received "a miracle".

In a statement, released by their private secretary Kristine Mønster, the Povlsen revealed that on March 11 they became parents to twins, following Anne's good pregnancy and an uncomplicated delivery. "The family greets these two miracles with all their hearts. The Povlsen are delighted to meet the girls and welcome them as vital pieces of their family," they said. Although, until now, neither the names nor the faces of the little ones are known.

However, keeping his privacy is something characteristic of Povlsen, who have always chosen to lead a simple and austere life, despite being the wealthiest man in his native country and one of the richest in the world. According to Forbes , Anders' fortune is valued at $ 8.6 billion, prompting him to invest in big fashion businesses, as well as in the Scottish Highlands. Why? According to the BBC, the couple would describe themselves as the custodian of these lands and valuable landscapes.

"His promise is to restore the Highlands and return them to their former magnificent natural state, along with repairing the damage that man has inflicted on them," the British network wrote last year, along with mentioning that the magnate expects his investment "not only bear fruit for your own children, but also for several generations of visitors. " Despite this, the Povlsen have established their residence in eastern Denmark, near the city of Aarhus.

As reported by the 'Daily Mirror' in 2019, Anders and his family live in an old neoclassical royal palace , known as Constantinsborg, where they would find themselves surrounded by nature, animals and without major luxuries. In fact, according to the 'Daily Mail', the businessman would have sent all his children to public schools. And he himself was raised that way, in the town of Ringkobing, where his family opened his first store in 1975.

Since then, Anders has managed to impressively expand Bestseller - the conglomerate in which its stores are grouped - and which today has more than 3,000 stores in 70 countries. Even so, the Danish has not gone up in smoke and has chosen to live as humbly as possible. "He protects his private life more than the members of the Danish royal family themselves," said Søren Jakobsen, the author of the book 'Denmark's Industrial Dinasties', in 2019, and, after the birth of his two daughters, the millionaire is likely to become even more protective of your family and environment.
