The government must immediately address the issue of obtaining production of material inland, even though there are laws that put a spanner in the wheel, the presidents write.

They highlight two requirements, one that the responsible authorities must quickly obtain a government assignment to secure the supply of protective equipment and, secondly, that the government should take the initiative for a production in Sweden to secure the supply in the long term.

"Can't compete"

Sweden's 21 regions cannot compete for the equipment, nor is it possible to wait for the joint EU procurement - it takes too long, according to the regional presidents.

The National Board of Health and Welfare's emergency preparedness manager Johanna Sandwall says that you get the same signals from all over the country.

- No one has a layer to take off.

The shortage makes the care worse

She goes so far as to say that care is made worse by the lack of material.

Social Minister Lena Hallengren (S) and Business Minister Ibrahim Baylan (S) have today met with representatives from the industry to get an overall picture of the shortage. It covers everything from personal protective equipment to sampling material in most regions, according to a national situation picture.
