A new conviction for Redoine Faïd. The multi-repeat robber was sentenced on appeal to 28 years of criminal imprisonment by the Pas-de-Calais assize court for the attack on an armored van in 2011, ten years more than the first instance.

Thursday, the prosecution had requested twenty-five years of imprisonment against Redoine Faïd. Aged 47, he was notably tried for theft by an organized gang with the threat of a weapon, destruction of the property of others, violence in assembly and association of criminals.

Accused absent from trial

Absent since the start of his trial, Redoine Faïd, who had started a hunger strike on February 20 to protest against his conditions of detention, again refused on Friday to be removed from his cell to appear in court.

On October 19, 2017, the North Assize Court sentenced him to 18 years of criminal imprisonment, recognizing him guilty, with four other accomplices, of having explosively attacked an armored van of the Loomis company on a road National of Pas-de-Calais on March 17, 2011, stealing more than two million euros.

Arrested in a snack bar near Lille

A few months later, Redoine Faïd and Saïd Agouni, held for the logistician, and another accomplice were arrested in a snack bar near Lille in June 2011.

Saïd Agouni was sentenced on Friday to fifteen years 'imprisonment, the same sentence as at first instance, while Advocate General Jean-Francis Créon had requested Thursday eight to eight years' imprisonment against him.

Fahri Berisa, the third accused in the trial, against whom two years' imprisonment had been requested, was acquitted.

During the entire trial, Redoine Faïd, who had started a hunger strike on February 20, never appeared at the bar.

"It is a miracle if there has been no death"

"Agouni is there alone in the box while Redoine Faïd is a coward ... The victims, they have come and stick together since the first day of the hearing," said Carine Delaby Faure, lawyer for a constable who was shot during the robbery.

"The robbery is the work of professionals and it is a miracle if there has not been a death," she added.

Already sentenced to twenty-five years' imprisonment for his role as "organizer" of a failed robbery in 2010, which had cost the life of a municipal policewoman, Redoine Faïd is imprisoned in solitary confinement at the penitentiary center of Vendin-le -Vieil (Pas-de-Calais), one of the most secure prisons in France.

He was also sentenced to ten years in prison in 2017 for his escape from the Lille-Sequedin prison (North) in April 2013. He appealed this decision. He is still to be tried for his spectacular escape from Réau prison (Seine-et-Marne) in July 2018.
