  • Next June 18, "Vests at the end of my dreams", the first play dedicated to yellow vests will be performed on the stage of the Sébastopol theater in Lille.
  • The yellow vests will play their own role and tell the social movement experienced from the inside.
  • Anne-Sophie Bastin, a lawyer from Lille, had this original initiative.

From the street to the boards. A year and a half after the start of the “yellow vests” movement, Anne-Sophie Bastin, a very committed lawyer from Lille, decided to make a play of it. On June 18, 2020, a hundred anonymous "yellow vests" accompanied by guest stars involved in the movement such as Jean-Marie Bigard, Yvan Le Bolloc'h or even Jean Lasalle will take over the Sébastopol theater in Lille for two hours. Vests at the end of my dreams , the name of the piece, will tell their story at the heart of the greatest social movement of recent years.

“The idea came to me in March 2019 at the end of a very violent demonstration. With a demonstrating friend, we had the feeling that art had to translate this historic moment in the streets, ”says Anne-Sophie Bastin, who then decides to improvise as a director. To recruit her actors and extras, all amateurs, volunteers and from all over France, she contacted the most committed "yellow vests" directly in the street. As for the plot of the piece, it tells real stories lived during the movement.

"We are going to stage roundabouts, demonstrations, police violence ..."

“We want to bring reality to the stage. We are going to stage roundabouts, demonstrations, police violence, exceptional justice. We will also pay tribute to the dead, mutilated and wounded of the movement. We sing, we laugh, we yell, ”says Anne-Sophie Bastin. As in the theater and as in the Yellow Vests, the play will be divided into acts. "But we stopped at 30 so as not to put on too long a show," smiles the lawyer. Since September, the future show, which will be interactive with the public, is repeated twice a week.

To mount this piece, the organizers, who do not benefit from any subsidy, called on donations. To play on the Sébasto stage, a budget of 12,000 euros is required. Whatever happens, the Yellow Vests will be on stage on June 18. It remains to be seen whether this play will be a standout or the start of a great theatrical adventure.
