The Middle East Eye news website said in an exclusive report that the former Saudi minister, Saad al-Jabri, close to the former crown prince, Muhammad bin Nayef, is being chased in Canada by the current crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, to return him to Riyadh, even if forcibly.

And the website quoted three sources described by Al-Mutala'ah as saying that Saad al-Jabri - who was one of the trusted advisers to the former crown prince - has become one of the most wanted outside Saudi Arabia, because he is considered a threat to the rule of bin Salman.

Al-Jabri fled the kingdom in 2017, shortly before Prince Muhammad bin Nayef was placed under house arrest, and Muhammad bin Salman was appointed as crown prince.

After spending a short time in Germany in the summer of 2017, he traveled to the United States and spent time in Boston.

Al-Jabri, however, according to the website, did not feel safe inside the United States, so he decided to travel to Canada after granting him asylum in November 2017.

A source with Middle East Eye said that al-Jabri, while he was in the United States, was subjected to an attempt to forcibly transfer him to Saudi Arabia.

A second source said that the former official had been the target of the prosecution even in Canada, and had received letters of intimidation and threat from Muhammad bin Salman.

The same source confirmed that there were also fears of Saudi efforts to extradite him from Canadian territory to Riyadh.

The site said that granting al-Jabri political asylum in Canada raises several questions about the diplomatic dispute that occurred between Ottawa and Riyadh in the summer of 2018.

He stated that Canadian intelligence agencies refused to comment on the details that were disclosed about Al-Jubeir, and that he tried to obtain comment from Al-Jubeir and his family members through several channels, but he did not receive any response until the date of the publication of his exclusive report.

However, sources familiar with the case confirmed to the website that they believed it was important to show details of what happened to Jabri, because that would reveal the extent to which the Saudi crown prince could go in the way of tracing any of his potential opponents.
