According to the draft resolution, the Security Council welcomes steps towards ending the war, the beginning of intra-Afghan negotiations, which were made possible thanks to the Joint Declaration of the United States and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as the agreement between the United States and the Taliban.

As noted in the text, the UN Security Council calls on the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban to take additional confidence-building measures as a sign of goodwill in order to create conditions conducive to the rapid start and success of intra-Afghan negotiations and the establishment of lasting peace.

Including the reduction of the level of violence, as well as the release of prisoners.

In late February, the United States and the Taliban signed a peace agreement in Qatar.

The document was signed by the US Special Representative for Afghanistan and the head of the delegation at the talks, Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban political leader Mullah Abdul Gani Baradar.

As noted by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the Taliban leadership is doing everything possible to implement the peace agreement signed on February 29.
